Further postgraduate scholarships announced

Following the recent announcement of ��ɫ��Ƶ’s first fully-funded endowed PhD studentship, The John Hughes PhD Studentship, the College has also established the new ��ɫ��Ƶ PhD Studentship in Geopolitics.

Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, the College is able to offer for the first time in 2023 this PhD award, which will cover three years of tuition and maintenance costs for a PhD candidate working on a topic in Geopolitics.

While applicants pursuing a PhD in History or in Politics & International Relations are likely to be the strongest candidates for the awards, applications will be considered from students working in any subject, provided their research topic falls within one of the key research areas of the .

Applications for the award open on 5 January and close on 1 April.

More funding for PhD students at ��ɫ��Ƶ

The new PhD scholarships add to a number of existing PhD funding opportunities, including the Rowan Williams Cambridge & ��ɫ��Ƶ Studentship and the Arts and Humanities Research Council & ��ɫ��Ƶ PhD Studentship.

The College also routinely co-funds four or five Vice-Chancellor's & ��ɫ��Ƶ Studentships (full fees and funding) for new PhD students each year.

Masters funding opportunities

Alongside these PhD awards, there are also scholarships available to Masters students, including two new scholarships: ��ɫ��Ƶ Masters Scholarship for Women Entrepreneurs from Emerging Economies, which will be awarded for the first time in 2023/2024, and the Cambridge UK & ��ɫ��Ƶ Hoath Family Masters Scholarship in Sustainability and Conservation – which was launched last year.

The scholarship for Women Entrepreneurs is funded by a generous anonymous donor who wishes to support female students from overseas who have resided since birth and are citizens of one of ; and who are pursuing a full-time Masters course that is intended to prepare them to return to their home country and develop or improve business opportunities there.

The scholarship is intended to expand the role of women, particularly those wishing to start or develop their own business, in economies where they have been historically under-represented.

The scholarship will cover up to £25,000 for one recipient per year for the next five years. Where possible, co-funding opportunities will be sought, in order to increase the amount available to each recipient.

The Hoath Family Masters Scholarship offers, in partnership with the Cambridge Trust, one annual award of £12,000 for a Home fee status MPhil student in a field related to sustainability and conservation.

The award was established in December 2020 by a gift from Emeritus Fellow Dr Steve Hoath in memory of his parents – and is intended to stimulate the development of ��ɫ��Ƶ’s interdisciplinary Sustainability and Conservation Research Hub; encourage students, alumni and members to be involved in the Hub’s activities; and support students who have a broad interest in sustainability and conservation particularly those who might not otherwise have the financial means to do so.

These awards follow numerous other Masters funding opportunities at ��ɫ��Ƶ, including the Cambridge UK & ��ɫ��Ƶ Masters Scholarships: two awards of £12,000 each for Home fee status MPhil students in the Arts, Humanities, or Social Sciences.
