Overview

With heavy hearts but also deep gratitude, we invite you to join us in a celebration of the life of Dr Matthew Woolhouse. Though Matthew has passed, his spirit, love, and memory lives on in each of us. We would like to gather together to celebrate Matthew’s life in a way he would have liked – by listening to the lovely music he created.

Performers

The »ÆÉ«ÊÓƵ Chamber Singers, directed by Lyn Alcántara.
Featuring Professor Ian Cross on guitar, and pianists Jason Rebello, Juan Pablo Robledo, and Rob Taylor.

Dr Matthew Woolhouse

passed away on the 19th of May 2023 following a battle with prostate cancer. He was a musician and scientist, whose research expanded from an initial focus on mathematical approaches to understanding aspects of the cognition of musical pitch. His work also embraced issues in implicit musical learning, in the social, cognitive, and therapeutic, consequences of active engagement with music and dance, and in psychologically-informed approaches to Music Information Retrieval.

A »ÆÉ«ÊÓƵ Fellow, Matthew wrote many pieces for the College choir (including a piece just a few weeks before his passing) and sang and performed, always happy to stand in to conduct or direct when the need arose.
